1826
A man named Nicephore Niepce took the first fixed, permanent photograph from nature. The landscape had required an eight hour exposure.

1900

Kodak introduced their first Brownie. The Brownie was a very basic cardboard box camera with a simple meniscus lens. This camera was $1 and intended to be a camera that everyone could afford. The slogan for these cameras were "You push the button, we do the rest"

1907

The Autochrome Lumière is an early colour photography process that was first marketed in 1907 and patented in 1903.

1930

In the 1930's, the first full-colour movie (the cartoon Flowers and Trees) was made in Technicolour by Disney. Also made in Technicolour was the first feauture film, Becky Sharp. Motion-picture film, cameras, and projectors were introduced by Kodak and more styles of film were being invented/introduced such as 'Kodacolour' for "print" film.

1948
The Hasselblad camera was introduced. These cameras were very popular to use during the Apollo program missions when man first landed on the moon. Almost all of the still photographs that were taken during this were taken on modified Hasselblad cameras.

Also in 1948, Edwin H.Land introduced the first Polaroid instant image camera. This camera generates a developed film image.

1975

Bryce Bayer of Kodak developed the Bayer filter mosaic pattern for CCD colour image sensors.

What is a Bayer filter?
A Bayer filter mosaic is a colour filter array for arranging RGB colour filters on a square grid of photosensors. This is used to create a colour image.

What is the pattern used?
The filter pattern is 50% green, 25% red and 25% blue.

1990

In 1990, Adobe Photoshop software was released.

1994


2000

The J-SH04 mobile phone (introduced by J-Phone) was the first mobile phone that could make and share still picture.

2009

Kodak announces the discontinuance of Kodachrome film.
